The Advantages of Using Billboards

There are many forms of advertising available to a business. Television and radio ads are perhaps the most popular. Direct mail advertising and advertising in periodicals such as newspapers and magazines are another means of marketing a product or service. Many time business owners fail to consider a very effective means of capturing a potential clients attention; the outdoor billboard.
Its Cheap
Billboards are one of the cheapest forms of advertising available. The maximum cost for a billboard in a prime location runs around $3,000 per month for a flat standard advertisement. If a company leased 10 billboards from a billboard company for 1 month the cost is $30,000.00. If each outdoor billboard is place for maximum exposure in high traffic areas, hundreds of thousands of people a month will see the advertisement.
Its Exclusive
Billboards companies will strategically place their billboards so they are not on top of one another. As a result the advertisement on the sign does not have any other competition from other billboards. This means the pedestrian or person in the car is exclusively focused on that ad and no other. As a result there is a better chance the product or service will be absorbed and remembered by the person who reads the billboard.
Its Informative
Billboards companies will also place billboards near businesses or exits on the highway. This way a billboard can be both informative as well as sales driven. A restaurant just off a highway exit will be more likely to attract customers with an outdoor billboard that states they exists and includes directions on how to get there. The billboard can also cater to the impulse buyer by advertising a product is close by and very easy to get to.
Targets Audiences
A billboard can be placed in an area that attracts the most potential clients. With radio, TV, and print ads a company is sending out a message to the general public hoping that an individual who hears or sees the ad will use the service or product. A billboard can be set up in a location where a target audience passes the sign daily. This will increase the likelihood that potential customers will see and act on the information in the billboard advertising.
Creates Name Recognition
A billboard company will usually choose locations for their billboards that are high traffic areas. Most billboards are placed along highways, busy roads and crowded intersections. By placing billboards in these congested areas thousands of people a day are exposed to the name and logo (if present) of the company. The commuter who continuously uses the same road and sees the same billboard over and over will begin to become familiar with the company and will recognize its name or logo in other areas of the city. This name recognition is an excellent means of generating new business.
Memory Retention
By having advertisements on billboards around the city drivers will see the company on the sign in different places over and over again. Eventually the billboard is recognized by the driver from a distance well before the sign can be read. Memory retention is complete and when the individual has need of the product or service their memory will bring the billboard to mind and the business will gain a new client.
